Montana politicians are asking Congress to delist grizzly bears

Grizzly bears are the ultimate symbol of the wild, and their 40-year comeback is a powerful conservation success story.

But right now, Montana politicians are asking Congress to delist grizzly bears.

It’s unacceptable that these elected officials are interfering in decisions that should be based on public input and science. Local politicians have no business or authority to interfere with decisions about legal protections for bears. And it’s unacceptable that Montana politicians are spending their time on political stunts like this, rather than doing their job to help the people of Montana.

Here’s how you can help:

·        Click here to email the members of the House Natural Resources committee.

·        Call 406-444-4800 to leave a message for the House Natural Resources committee. Tell the operator you adamantly oppose HJ 15, and that these politicians need to do their job, not waste time on political showboating.

·        If you’re in Helena (MT), please consider attending the hearing in Room 172 at 3 pm on Friday, Feb. 24. Packing the room with people like you who oppose this dangerous resolution will send a powerful message to these misguided officials.

Let’s kill this resolution in committee. Resolutions like this can’t be vetoed by the governor. If passed, anti-grizzly radicals in Washington, D.C. will no doubt seize on this resolution as a reason to introduce bad bills for grizzly bears, like they have for wolves. Montana’s meddling may also embolden attacks on the Endangered Species Act, a law that has broad approval and that has helped prevent many animals from going extinct.

Please join us in telling the Montana legislature to stay out of grizzly bear decisions. Thank you for standing up for what’s right, and for all you do to help us keep bears alive.
