Hunters and trappers have killed over 4000 gray wolves in the lower 48 states considering that they were gotten rid of from the endangered species list in 2011. For over 40 years, the Gray Wolf was a protected types under the Endangered Species Act; however, this defense was eliminated by legal rider in 2011.
