Garveys Donate $410,000

Colville ranchers Dick & Betty Garvey

were recognized at Land Grant Day festivities for a Charitable Remainders Unitrust they have set up for the CAHE. They donated nearly 400 acres of land to WSU to be sold and the revenues placed in a trust. The land brought about $410,000. Details are being worked out for the use of revenues from the trust when they become available to the college.

The Garveys are long-time Stevens County ranchers and woodlot operators. Dick has been president of the Northeast Washington Fair Board, the Stevens County Cattlemen’s Association and Tri-county Sheep Producers. He also served on the WSU Stevens County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board for 15 years.

Neither Dick nor Betty, nor any of their children or grandchildren, attended WSU. But they say both their ranching and family lives have been tremendously influenced by WSU’s extension programs, including 4-H. Dick credits WSU with providing answers to questions and access to agricultural and forestry information that helped him succeed.

The Garveys current operation consists of a commercial cow/calf and woodlot operation.
