Letter – Idaho’s murder of wolves, coyotes disgusting | Walla Walla Union-Bulletin

On behalf of Blue Mountain Audubon Society of Walla Walla, I would like to express our disappointment and disgust regarding the Idaho wolf and coyote derby.

It is sad, but not surprising, to hear that there are still those who don’t understand the fundamental and essential role predators play in the web of life.

When wolves were reintroduced into their natural place in the Yellowstone National Park ecosystem, elk returned to a healthy population level that allowed aspen trees to again flourish and watersheds to regenerate.

To award prizes for the murders of wolves and coyotes is wrong and reprehensible. We strongly support the decision of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to withdraw permits and encourage all those who care about a healthy and sustainable environment to spend their vacation dollars outside of Idaho.
