MASSIVE POACHING IN THE NORTHWEST

Everyone should take a good look at what keeps happening right under our noses. The amount of poaching and the way it is done is abhorrent. Many animals poached include deer, elk, bear, cougar and bobcats, many of which were hunted and mauled with the illegal assistance of hound dogs. Yes, torn apart.

This particular case  involves the illegal taking of hundreds of animals throughout Southwest  Washington and northwest Oregon over the past several years. You heard right…several years and it’still not completely solved. The  investigation began more than two years ago.  Some were shot and left behind to rot with no effort made to salvage any meat. On one video obtained by officials during their investigation, a suspect can be heard bragging about killing four bears in one day while a pack of hunting hounds tears at one freshly poached bear carcass.

Mike Cenci, deputy chief of westside enforcement operations for the Washington Department Fish and Wildlife, said they would like to wrap up the investigation as quickly as possible in order to bring the perpetrators to justice quickly. However, Cenci also pointed out that many of the poaching locations were in remote high-altitude areas where lingering snow put the brakes on the investigation. The heat of the summer has cleared most of those areas now, and as a result the WDFW is finally ready to hand the case over to the prosecuting attorney. “Our investigation is complete,” Cenci told The Chronicle on Monday.  He said he expects the files to be reviewed and charges to be filed promptly. “We’re recomending filng against five persons initially and then six after that and then there are some satellite people as well, so there will be some levels to this. Ultimately the charges are up to the prosecutor but that’s what we are recommending,” he said.

It is good to know this but we hope to find out what was done and if and how the individuals were prosecuted.  The truth is that poaching is rampant and it is frightening to know that we have so many sociopaths running around killing for fun. Do people actually think they stop there? There is plenty of research that tells us that those that kill for pleasure don’t stop with just animals.  We all have to push for change. We all need to see who is sponsoring and co-sponsoring the legislation that is killing our animals. We need more animals protected and on the Endangered Species list, not fewer! There are a number of bills out that will ensure the slaughter of our wolves and dismantle the Endangered Species Act. The most toxic legislation could be passed if we don’t act now. ~A

Here is just one:  S.1514 Hunting Heritage and Environmental Legacy Preservation for Wildlife Act or HELP for Wildlife Act is a bill sponsored by Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), it’s being co-sponsored by Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), making this a bipartisan legislation.

The riders in this bill would effectively put our nation’s most threatened wildlife back in the hands of politicians rather than scientists. If the bill passes, state plans are already set in place to re-open trophy hunting seasons on wolves which will mean more of the hounding, trapping, snaring and high kill quotas that pushed them to the brink of extinction in the first place.

This legislation not only aims to prematurely delist an imperiled species, but also seeks to block judicial review, an essential part of any modern democratic society and necessary a part of enforcing the Endangered Species Act.

They need 60/100 votes to break filibuster, they have 57 right now, they need 3-5 more democrats to commit. Goal here is for them to have a companion bill introduced to the house and passed by late 2017 or early 2018. We need to flood their phone lines in opposition to this bill. We can all call these Dems below. We don’t have much time.

These are the targeted Democrats:
Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI): 202-224-5653
Sen. Al Franken (D-MN): 202-224-5641
Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI): 202-224-6221
Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI): 202-224-4822
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI): 202-224-5323

Here is a sample script but you can use your own words and speak from the heart about how important this is.

Hello, my name is __________ and I am from _________. I am calling to urge Senator _______ to oppose the Help for Wildlife Act bill (S. 1514).
Please oppose S. 1514.

Thank you
