Stop Wolves being killedJust when you think Wyoming could not get any worse,  today’s news reveals that Brian Nesvik, Wyoming Game and Fish’s chief warden, now says the state is considering lowering the total wolf population goal in the Game and Fish’s managed “trophy game area.”

He and others complain there are fewer elk in the winter feedlot (disgusting elk farm)  Game and Fish Deputy Chief of Wildlife Doug Brimeyer, a former biologist, told his commissioners earlier this month that the wintertime elk exodus has been “emotional” for managers and others who have watched the changes. Yes, he said “emotional.” Really? What about how the rest of the country feels about this?  The rest of the world in fact!  The state makes millions of dollars in tourism! Especially in Yellowstone! So many go to Wyoming in hopes of seeing wolves and other animals they would rarely have an opportunity to see elsewhere. You know who else get emotional? The advocates that love wolves and want so badly to protect them. Yes, very emotional! The anger, and the sadness that is overwhelming at times.

So  Brimeyer, goes on to say “I know a lot of our guys have lost sleep over this. And I know [for] the outfitters, too, and the public that have taken their kids hunting to this drainage, it’s a fairly emotional thing.” Dammit this is sick!! Wolves are intelligent, sentient beings and they feel the loss of their pack members, their mates and their pups definitely suffer the loss.

Brian Nesvik, Game and Fish’s chief warden, said the state is considering lowering the total wolf population goal in the Game and Fish’s managed “trophy game area.” They would like to reduce numers below 160, to about 140 with only 10 wolf packs.

Kelly resident and Gros Ventre Wilderness Outfitters owner Brian Taylor is among those who say the shifting distribution is a shame. The third-generation rancher, who’s an avowed wolf opponent, made the trek to Cody to implore the Game and Fish Commission to kill more lobos — and to take up the task on their own. “I think you’re going to have to do something more drastic than sport hunting,” Taylor said. “I’m all for increasing the quota, but after what I saw this fall I think if you set the quota at 20 wolves, and I’m being really conservative there, I don’t think you’d meet the objective.”

Not only that—Commissioner Patrick Crank, of Cheyenne, said trapping will help just like in Montana and Idaho. There has not been wolf trapping in the trophy game area since the species lost its protected status under the Endangered Species Act.

Now more than ever, our wolves need a “Sacred Species Protection Zone.”  We can make it happen, but we can’t do it alone. Let’s do this! Also, call the Wyoming Board of Tourism and tell them you will not spend your tourist dollars and you will share what they do with the rest of the world.
