Protest Idahos Wolf Slaughter

BREAKING – A press release just issued from The Wildlife News is a call for action to attend a peaceful protest rally today to oppose the continued, unscientific and cruel ‘lethal control measures’ (read: slaughter) of gray wolves in Idaho wilderness areas, public lands and other areas.

“A family-friendly demonstration to show support for wolf recovery in Idaho and opposition to Idaho’s Wolf Control Board and the recent aerial gunning of wolves in the ‘Lolo Zone’ by the USDA Wildlife Services and Idaho Fish & Game Department,” is slated for February 15, 2016 from 1-2 pm Mountain Standard Time at the Idaho Capital Building (south side) 700 W. Jefferson Boise, Idaho.

“The Idaho Fish & Game Department just announced the completion of an aerial gunning exercise by the USDA Wildlife Services that resulted in the killing of 20 wolves in the “Lolo Zone” of the Clearwater National Forest. There was no public notice of the operation and funding for the operation came from the Idaho Wolf Control Board. The Wolf Control Board is now requesting an additional $400,000 for further wolf “control” actions in 2016. In 2015, a total of 72 wolves were killed with money from the Wolf Control Board. The Wolf Control Board was awarded $400,000 in 2015. That equates to roughly $5,500 per wolf “control.”

Indicating a groundswell of support for wolves, the protest aims to get the attention of Idaho state lawmakers while demanding an end to Idaho’s wasteful Wolf Control Board. Protesters will also demand the termination of the highly-contentious and financially irresponsible federal USDA Wildlife Services aerial gunning program in the Lolo Zone on the Clearwater National Forest, areas where, if anywhere, wolves should be allowed to live free and without persecution from humans.
