This pretty much sums up the hunters position. They actually claim that they are facing overpopulation. It is more important now than ever that we get our research into court to stop this needless slaughter.

Each state in the west has about 60,000 elk, the exception is the over populated Colorado with about 450,000 head. Large numbers of Elk are destructive and their damage to habitat and food sources not only affects them but also how well the Mule Deer fare through the winter.
In areas in the east Whitetail have overpopulated the area to such a extreme they are the source of many automobile accidents annually. Antelope are very fragile. Although there are more antelope than people in Wyoming, that 1 state has 50% of the nation’s antelope population all in one place. Without herd management by the Game and Fish Departments and the DNR’s these animals will have heavy losses in the winter from deep snow and starvation.
We saw that last year after a number of mild winter and growing herd populations. Last year Idaho, Montana and northern edge of Wyoming acknowledge winter kill losses from deep snow/starvation and exposure of there game animals. This is a long painful way to die and a waste of our natural resources..
