The Great Blacktail Disagreement of 2016

Tuesday:
As some of you may know there have been a ton of photos of a black wolf taken in the Blacktail Ponds area of Yellowstone. Of course I had to get in on the action, and thus, got in on the confusion.

The basic gist of the issue(s) is that nobody seems to be sure what Pack this wolf came from or may belong to. Heck, folks cant seem to agree if its a “he” or “she”!

This wolf may be a yearling from the Prospect Peak Pack that potentially was driven for the Pack by others, or may be a PPP member who is just hanging out, or the wolf could be a member of the 8 Mile Pack who is just, either lost, or???? As for the Male/Female issue, Rick M stated it is a Male, and judging from how he urinated today, I agree. Of course others have said that he pees as a female.. Now, of course if he is a Prospect Peak member, his sibling looks much like him and is female, so could they have switched up on who is hanging out? Oh good, more confusion….

Do you want to be my friend? The wolf seems to have an urge to “play” with everybody, he has been “weird” with the coyotes (seemingly playful), bison and the bear… so far only the Coyotes seem to take the time to return the favor.
