Wildlife managers in northeast Washington are removing a wolf pack known as the the Profanity Peak Pack following a number of cattle kills. The state faces opposition from tribes and pressure from locals as they proceed.
Cowlitz tribal elder Roger Dobson said the extermination of the pack violates Native American treaty and religious rights.
“Our sacred animals are our religion,” Dobson said. “They are a part of us they are a part of our beliefs.”
Dobson’s advocacy group ‘Protect the Wolves’ consulted a tribal attorney who says the state must find consensus with tribes. The group also sent a cease and desist letter to Donny Martorello, the state’s wolf policy lead.
Martorello said the pack removal “is [not] counter to treaty rights.” He also rejected a resolution passed by Ferry County commissioners that authorized the sheriff there to remove wolves if the state did not.
“We have some concerns,” Martorello said. “That’s not consistent with state law.”
That resolution is under review in the state attorney general’s office.

2 points stand out clearly to me Martorello is not qualified to be a “wildlife manager” nor is he an expert on biology or conservation or ethical judgement as there is no reason to kill wolves when cattle are the trespassers in the Natural world especially in Wolf Country Like Stevens County Washington and North to the Canadian Border it is all Always Been wolf Country and Things were plentiful and diverse were the ecosystems both ecologically and biologically then came the Cattle and Wolves have Been Unfairly Murdered to Placate or Pacify the Whims of People That Do Not have the Intellect to Comprehend any Creature mattering more then The Cows or Sheep that in Actuality Do Not have any Legal Claim to Grass nor fresh water Streams that are within the boundaries of Our Public LANDS!!.. If They Do Not Own enough Land to Graze their Herds Why Should Taxpayers and Wolves Both have to pay so severely You Kill The Wolves that Ensure Sustainability is possible while the Cows trash the landscape and muddy the streams and Expedite Erosion of Crucial Stream banks all while Trespassing In Our Forests”The Wolves Forest” and the birds and the Cougars and the Bears and Squirrels and Raccoon’s and Fish and Insects and Plant life’s Forests Not the Ranchers Cattle’s Forest so get them Off PUBLIC LAND WDFW WE are Not Going Away Until You Have…. You have probably trapped or killed them already and hidden them till all the backlash blows over. 2 different Groups have offered to take those wolves and what have you done? How about we look at preditor friendly farming? I honesyly hate the agro industry and have been vegan for many years. But i do get that people depend on the industry.. But when there are also alternatives to agriculrure, where we can save our wild animals ( endangered species) and still sustain yourselves, and not use those options available and kill our wild friends.. Then you gotta wonder what the real reason is for this needles killing.. Reality is. Wolves are scspegoates for hunan stupidity, and greed. We want all resourcrs and dont wsnt to share with the wild animals.. Like when will it be enough? When all life is dead? Wolves are not only critucally endangerd, but they are the most important animal for our ecosystens. They not only manage how species behave but even transform the physicsl geography of their enviroment. And provide life to many other species. So if you want to kill all life on earth, then ya. Killing an off an umbrella species (apex preditors), like the wolf is the way to do it!! We need people eho understand science and who refuses to be bought by big agro and other indudtries to make every decision regardibg wild life. And also someone who actually understands native treaty rights and respects them.. I serjously think the only qualified people for this job are the undiginious people themselves!! As they are the only ones who would refuse to do anything to jepardize the lives of both people and nature..
