Wildlife cameras in the Cascades have captured the second wolf near Stevens Pass this year. Prior to these sightings, no wolf has been recorded in the area over five decades. The latest is a collared female with the Teanaway pack.
The cameras are maintained by volunteers with Conservation Northwest. More than 100 volunteers monitor about 50 cameras year-round.
In the winter, heavy snow makes the trek to cameras much more risky. Jim Clark volunteers monthly to make a 15-mile loop to two cameras near the Chiwaukum Creek trail. Sometimes the journey takes in 19-hours.
The cameras he maintains are the ones that snapped the photos of the wolves.
