Amazing how long this is taking…. Theyd better prosecute this guy!

SALT LAKE CITY — Wildlife officials say it could be several weeks before DNA tests are completed to determine whether a gray wolf accidentally shot in Utah is the same wolf seen wandering near the Grand Canyon last fall.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman Steve Segin says the agency is also awaiting necropsy results from the Utah wolf.

Wildlife officials say a hunter in southwestern Utah mistook the 3-year-old female northern gray wolf for a coyote.

It was wearing a radio collar but Segin would not disclose if the collar was working when the animal died, citing an investigation.

The Grand Canyon wolf was wearing a collar but it was not functioning when it was spotted.

That wolf, also a female, was the first seen in northern Arizona in more than 70 years.
