Phoenix should have been returned to captive breeding program

In Ban Grazing Allotments, Oppose Welfare Ranching, Protect The Wolves by Twowolves1 Comment

No Matter how Fish and WS spin this story, the fact remains that Under NEPA, all options are legally required to be investigated. Phoenix The Mexican Gray Wolf slaughtered at the demands of Ranchers should have been returned to a captive breeding Program.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Environmentalists and livestock owners are pointing fingers after government agents killed an endangered Mexican gray wolf last month for preying on cattle, the first wolf killed for depredation in 10 years. The wolf was killed in August by the U.S. Department of Agriculture following an investigation into the deaths of four cattle in Apache County.A Fish and Wildlife Service memo justifying the “lethal control” of the wolf found one calf had been “killed by wolves, one was probably killed by wolves, and a third (cow) died of natural causes” on Aug. 2. The death of another calf found a day later was attributed to wolf depredation.

If there can be a change to a system where we can see and edit our mistakes and typos, this would be good!)

All the captive breeding places are either zoos or other nonprofits, and so in the intergovernment arguing (AZ wants it, NM wants it, US wants it, and is terrified about losing everything, so gives in to states, including both political party platforms – face it, republicans are all about exterminating everything, especially wolves, giving individuals the right to kill everything without oversight – just LOOK at the laws they introduce). Democrats, are either vaguely foro some protection, or willing to “throw wolves under the bus”. I’ll give you some insight into their moral failure:
Democrats in MO and LA, and in MT and other states, sign onto things like the tar sands pipelines, so they, claim, they can keep their jobs.
Montana’s John Tester sends me fundraising emails practically every couple days -he, the guy that went “bipartisan” by delisting wolf rider (a corruption of government if there ever was one, “riders” are unrelated little pork-barrel paragraphs added to bills that MUST PASS, like appropriations bills, without which military or govt has no money to operate. Riders are ALWAYS controversial legislation that cannot pass in a bill of its own.

So, anyway, nongovernmental agreements and contracts are attackedd by the other party as corruptioin, because it favors supposedly the position of the nongov org. All wolf captive reproductive places are attacked by republicans as pro-wolf – of course thhey are, it’s an endangered species, which republican bills have repeatedly attacked.
THere appear to be legal cases preventing the feds using the regulatory language of “removing a predator that has depredated beyond a certain number of times, meaning lethal removal rather than putting it into a zoo or preservation facility.
In order to find the case law or precedent, you’ll probably have to go to an extremely well-versed lawyer involved in this dispute.
I’ve mentioned this alternative many times in writing to several state wolf management agencies, such as Washington.
They do not reply, but do have from time to timme, some rationale published. It’s been over years, and so their positions should be findable through agency contact. Walking into their offices, they don’t really give you the time of day, but always try to refer you to someone else. I gave that up after a couple times.
I’ve been getting vague reassurances from senators over thhe years, and think that you probably have to get several people together and go to one of those “town-hall” meetings, to get some kind of followup action.
