TODAY IS THE DAY WE WILL MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD!

In Legislation, No Riders, Protect The Wolves, Save the ESA, Stop Extinction, Wolf Delisting Rider by LyndaLeave a Comment

The U.S. Senate will be discussing the Appropriations Minibus bill, HR 6147 with all of its toxic sections tomorrow on the Senate floor.  The ESA is on the chopping block and wolves and many other endangered species are in grave danger. Environmental protection, Clean Water Rule and Nation Parks will also take a hit.

The US Senate convenes at 10 am and will decide if they will proceed with HR 6147 if they do—they said they will be devoted to passing the Bill all week. We say ALL toxic sections MUST be removed!

On  July 19th the House Republicans passed an Interior-Environment appropriations bill that fails the American people. This bill cuts environmental protections; removes safeguards for our air, water, and endangered species; and allows rampant corruption at the Executive Branch to go unchecked. … Democrats were able to secure a few meaningful victories on the floor…. However, the Republican majority made this bad bill even worse by adding toxic partisan riders and making deeper cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency and the Fish and Wildlife Service.” (Source: Statement from Betty McCollum)

Tell Senate leadership that all toxic sections MUST be excluded! It is imperative that our wildlife, wolves, wild horses, burros, our public lands and national parks, endangered species be protected. TO KEEP THE ESA INTACT instead of dismantling it.  All poison pill riders that attack clean water, public health and block the latest life-saving ozone standards entirely. must be removed. You can email but it’s best to CALL Senate leadership. Staff will answer and take your message.

Included is an amendment that could significantly impact the recovery of listed species if the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service fails to meet its obligation to complete a 5-year review of the species’ status as required by the Endangered Species Act. This amendment would leave many species in an uncertain state, as they would retain their ESA status, but all federal funding for recovery efforts, law enforcement efforts, and consultations would be blocked.

Secretary of the Interior shall issue a rule to remove the gray wolf (Canis lupus) in each of the 48 contiguous States of the United States and the District of Columbia from the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and shall not be subject to judicial review; and shall not affect the inclusion of the subspecies classified as the Mexican gray wolf (Canis lupus bailey) of the species gray wolf (Canis lupus) in such list.

There will be massive giveaways to wealthy corporate polluters they’ve hidden in this must-pass bill: over $100 million in cuts to the EPA and conservation initiatives at the Department of the Interior and poison pill riders that attack clean water, public health and block the latest life-saving ozone standards entirely, threatening millions of vulnerable Americans like children, the elderly and asthmatics. It also poses a serious threat to plants and wildlife. Delaying ozone standards and changing the process will lengthen the time it takes to get to clean air. This means dirty air stays around longer in our parks and communities.

There is more and it keeps getting worse. We are going to roll up our sleeves and fight this!
