Director Virgil Mooreâs two goals for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game â to bring hunters and other wildlife advocates together and to increase elk numbers â have collided in the middle of the largest wilderness in the lower 48 states.
His agencyâs hiring of a hunter-trapper to exterminate two packs of wolves in the 2.4 million-acre Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness has angered many of the people who had previously stayed out of the polarizing wolf debate. Itâs also alienating some of the people who are critical to Mooreâs efforts to expand funding for his department.
